Credit Repair: Basic Tips You Should Heed

October 9, 2011 by admin

Once you have a low credit score that causes you to have a negative report from the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion), you will realize that it will negatively affect your loans, your job applications, and any financial transactions that you wish to undertake.

Here are the basic tips you need to consider:

1.  Take note of the things that caused you to have a negative report. This would mean late payments on certain or several accounts you owe. It may also mean not paying your account. This is much worse than late payments. Filing bankruptcy is another reason. Maxing out your credit limit is also another thing. Once you have taken note of whatever may have caused you to have a bad credit report, act on it.

2.  Save what you can. If you have good accounts, do not sacrifice it. You still have to continue to make timely payments to maintain your good standing on those accounts.

3.  Spread out your disputes.  If you have two or more items to dispute with the credit bureau, be sure to state only one dispute in your letter. You also have to space out the time frame on sending out your letters otherwise, the credit agency will not take it seriously suspecting it to be frivolous.

4. Do not cancel all your credit cards. Cancelling your credit cards because you have problems paying the balance will do you more harm than good. You simply cannot fix your credit once your cards are cancelled. The only way for you to get back on track is to start paying on time. Slowly but surely, your timely payment will reap a positive feedback.

5. If lost on what to do, do not hesitate to call for help. Go in for credit counseling. Definitely, there are many reputable and dependable credit counselors in Kansas City who can help you with your current financial standing by giving you advice on what to do.

6.  Do not be discouraged. Yes, credit repair takes time. There are no quick fixes or shortcuts to a better credit report but to start from the basic. If you think you cannot handle the monthly amount you have to pay, talk to your creditors to help you reconstruct your loan in such a way that your monthly payment will become manageable. As you continue working on repairing your credit, every timely payment will eventually lead you to a good credit standing.

The importance of credit repair cannot be downplayed. This is your financial lifeline. Heed these tips, and you are on the right track.
